Guiao: Patience key to ROS resurgence

YENG Guiao admitted feeling the frustration when Rain or Shine (ROS) dropped its first four games in the Philippine Cup, a repetition of the team's bad start from the Commissioner's Cup.

However, the outspoken ROS mentor also believed the players' hard work in practice bore the fruit when they eventually put together a string of five consecutive wins to get back into the thick of things.

And by Friday, coming off a two-week break, Rain or Shine came out smoking, torching NLEX with 14 three-point shots on the way to a 120-104 victory to secure a quarterfinal seat in the all-Filipino conference.

"I didn't lose hope [when the team went 0-4], but sometimes, you just feel frustrated because you can see the potential of the team, but it seems it wasn't being translated in the game," Guiao told media men in Filipino shortly after ROS scored the runaway win to close the elims at 6-5.

Guiao said he can't say anything much as far as the players' attitude is concerned as they work hard, are dedicated and extremely focused in their goal of exceeding whatever they were able to accomplish last conference.

In the end, the challenges the team has gone through requires patience.

"I can't say anything as far as the players' attitude is concerned because all of them work very hard. All I hoped for was for their hard work to be translated in the games and really, just the patience, which we can see now from the results of the games," he added.

Guiao added that after a 0-5 start in the Commissioner's Cup, the team, despite falling to a 0-4 beginning in the all-Filipino, managed to recover and make it back to the playoffs. And this, he said, is still a marked improvement.
