Power projects set for impact studies

THE Department of Energy (DoE) has approved 11 energy projects to undergo a system impact study (SIS) with National Grid Corp. of the Philippines covering March.

All projects involve renewable energy: seven solar, three wind, and one hydroelectric.

The DoE said it had approved Tera Renewables 9 Corp.'s Villasis-Malasiqui 1 Solar Power Project in Pangasinan; NewAsia Power Energy II Corp.'s Sta. Rosa Floating PhotoVoltaic (PV) Power Project in Laguna; Nortesol II Inc.'s Cabuyao 1 Floating PV Power Plant in Laguna; and Nanchao Renewable Energy Corp.'s Pasuquin-Burgos Solar Power Plant in Ilocos Norte.

It also approved SIS CleanTech Global Renewables Inc.'s Tayabas North Wind Energy Project in Quezon; FGEN Power Ventures Inc.'s Inara Solar Power Project Phase 1 in Batangas; San Roque Hydropower Inc.'s San Roque Optimization Project in Pangasinan; Ingrid4 Power Corp.'s Dasol 1 Solar Power Project in Pangasinan; Amara Solar Power Corp.'s Paoay Floating Solar Power Project in Ilocos Norte; First Gen Visayas Energy Inc.'s General Santos Wind Power Project in South Cotabato; and The Blue Circle Philippines Cebu Corp.'s Baao Wind Energy Project in Camarines Sur.

An SIS evaluates the impact of interconnection on the safety and reliability of the transmission system.

Year-to-date, the DoE has approved 39 energy projects for SIS.

It also endorsed 24 energy projects to the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) for March.

Certificates of endorsement (COEs) were issued for nine conventional energy projects, two renewable energy projects and 13 energy storage systems.

The DoE's endorsements to the ERC are treated as recommendations for the projects to get permits to operate.

Year-to-date, the DoE has issued 46 COEs for various energy projects.
