(UPDATE) FROM finishing the previous conference elimination round with a flawless record and now absorbing two defeats, Creamline team captain Alyssa Valdez perceives each win as an opportunity for the Cool Smashers to slowly regain their confidence.
Creamline defeated Nxled via sweep, 25-22, 25-12, 25-20, in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) 2024 All-Filipino Conference last Sunday, April 14.
With this bounce-back win, the Phenom said she is glad that the Cool Smashers were able to find themselves.
"I think more than the win, our coach (Sherwin Meneses) reminded us that we need to find ourselves in this game, also in this conference. We are slowly building that confidence and finding who we are back again," Valdez told the press after the game.
The Phenom did find her confidence as she flaunted her form in their match against Nxled after being hailed as the player of the game, chiming in 12 markers all on attacks.
Based on Creamline's PVL 2023 Second All-Filipino Conference impressive flawless record, it is rare for the defending champions to be on the losing end in a match.
But with the heightened competition in this year's PVL conference, Creamline had its fair share of pains.
The Cool Smashers first experienced a loss at the hands of Chery Tiggo via sweep, then their second loss came from the gutsy Petro Gazz Angels, who outlasted them in a tough five-setter match.
Knowing they are a veteran team, Valdez said that aside from their skill advantage, it is also all about playing all out.
"We are a veteran team. It is just not the skills, it is all about playing all out regardless of our opponent. We are very, very happy. We are slowly, gradually finding ourselves."
Still, Creamline is in a good position for a playoffs slot as they ranked second with a 7-2 win-loss record.
