BACOLOD CITY: The Central Negros Electric Cooperative (Ceneco) promised to minimize lengthy brownouts in Bacolod City.

Arnel Lapore, acting general manager of Ceneco, made the commitment after meeting with the acting mayor, Councilor Israel Salanga, over the latter's concern over the nearly five hour power interruption that hit the city on Thursday, April 11.

Lapore told Salanga that the power distribution cooperative will take proactive measures to prevent lengthy brownouts.

On Thursday a power interruption occurred in Bacolod City at 9:30 p.m. and lasted for close to five hours.

The brownout affected nine barangay and 133 residential areas in the capital city of Negros Occidental.

Lapore attributed the recent power interruption to a broken wire at the Bacolod-Alijis 69-kilovolt line that serves as lightning arrester.

"The stress and heat could have been the cause of its breakage. It resulted in the manual shutdown of the Alijis feeder to prevent an accident while repair was going on," he said.
