BANGSAMORO: The celebration of Eid al-Fitr is a significant occasion that marks not only the conclusion of monthlong fasting among Muslims. It also embodies a sense of renewal, hope and forgiveness for the entire community.
These were the messages issued by Mufti Abdulrauf Guialani on Wednesday, April 10, before thousands of Muslims who joined the celebration of Eid al-Fitr inside the Bangsamoro Government Center in Cotabato City.
Over in Zamboanga City, thousands of Muslim residents converged at the Joaquin Enriquez Memorial Stadium for their congregational prayers.
Sheikh Ashraf Radjuli led the Eid prayer.
Mosques were also filled with worshipers as Muslims celebrate the holiest day of the year.
Benyamen Cabuntalan of the Bangsamoro Information Office told The Manila Times the declaration of the day's celebration was made by the Bangsamoro Darul-Ifta (BDI) based on the sighting of the Moon and confirmed by simultaneous lunar observations nationwide.
Eid al-Fitr is one of the grandest holidays in Islam which signifies the culmination of the monthlong fasting among Muslims worldwide during Ramadan, alongside Eid al-Adha.
"By the authority vested in me as a Bangsamoro Mufti, I, Abdulrauf Guialani, hereby announce that the crescent Moon was sighted today. Therefore, the Eid al-Fitr or the first day of Shawwal will be tomorrow, Wednesday, April 10, 2024, in Shaa Allah," stated the Grand Mufti at the BDI Office in Cotabato City.

The Office of the Chief Minister also released Memorandum Circular 045, s. 2024 on April 8, outlining the specific guidelines for the Eid al-Fitr congregational prayer at the Bangsamoro Government Center grounds.
Meantime, Col. Robert Daculan, provincial director of Lanao del Sur, conducted a field visit and security inspection at the Mindanao State University Grandstand and new Provincial Capitol in Marawi City early in the morning of April 10 to personally supervise the implementation of security measures for the safety and security of Islam believers.
In his earlier message to the Muslim communities, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said: "As you culminate the Holy Month of Ramadan by celebrating the Festival of the Breaking of the Fast, may you sustain the values, teaching and practices that you have wholeheartedly discerned and embodied throughout this time."
"Let these form the foundation of your characters as you continue to fulfill righteous deeds and strive to live a virtuous life moving forward," the President added.
