MANILA, Philippines: The country will continue to experience hot weather until Friday, with the province of Pangasinan likely to register the highest heat index at 44 C, the state weather bureau said on Thursday.
The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Palawan may record a heat index of 43 C while Metro Manila would have 40 C to 41 C.
Residents in the provinces of La Union, Cagayan and Zamboanga del Sur should also brace for hotter weather, Pagasa said.
Weather specialist Aldczar Aurelio said the public should limit the time spent outdoors, especially during late morning until mid-afternoon to avoid possible heat cramps and heat exhaustion.
"Continuing outdoor activities could even lead to heat stroke amid the heat of the sun," the Pagasa forecaster warned as he added that bringing hats or umbrellas for cover and drinking plenty of water would help.
Meanwhile, the state weather bureau said isolated downpours or thunderstorms could still be experienced in some areas, including Metro Manila, especially in late afternoon or at night due to the easterlies.
Easterlies are winds coming from the east that pass through the Pacific Ocean and carry humid and warm weather in the country, it said.
