THE Department of Science and Technology (DoST), in collaboration with Mambajao town, conducted a three-day basic incident command system training (BICST) for skills enhancement of 40 members of the Incident Management Team of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (MDRRMO).

The training was held on February 7 to 9 at the new Operation Center building in Lakas, Mambajao.

Technical experts from the Office of the Civil Defense, Lanao del Norte and Bukidnon, and Tagoloan town shared expertise for the BICST.

The event was participated by various representatives from Mambajao LGU, Philippine National Police, Bureau of Fire Protection, Philippine Coast Guard, DoST, and Department of Public Works and Highways.

The three-day workshop consisted of a series of lectures, brainstorming and simulations that explained the basics, the organization, and facilities of the Incident Command System.

In her opening message, Raquel Ranara of MDRRMO-Mambajao cited the importance of preparedness before a disaster occurs.

"It is always better to be prepared in any event or case of any incident," she said.

The activity focused on training the participants in handling unforeseen events, applying the management by objectives principle, and mastering essential resource management within an ICS.

The training was also aimed at enhancing the participants' comprehension of considerations in incident and event planning, emphasizing the significance of transfer of command, demobilization, and close-out processes.

"An incident action plan is very important in the execution of the rescue operations," said Patrick Callanta, speaker from the Office of the Civil Defense.

The event highlighted the commitment of the government to achieve disaster resilience by incorporating ICS in the effective management of potential and actual disaster consequences in Mambajao.

DoST and Mambajao have also conducted the ICS Executive Course as part of the implementation of the Moccov project.
