THE Bureau of Customs (BoC) collected P75.43 billion in March, surpassing its target for a third straight month.
The result, 3.45 percent higher than the P72.91-billion goal, was attributed to assessment improvements.
"The BoC boosted its revenue collection through its strict monitoring and collection of deferred payment of government importation," the agency also said.
Year-to-date, the agency also exceeded the targeted P210.9 billion by 4.03 percent at P219.4 billion.
This was also 2.6 percent higher than the P213.8 billion collected in the first quarter of last year.
Customs Commissioner Bienvenido Rubio claimed that enhanced post-clearance audit initiatives had facilitated the accurate collection of duties and taxes.
The agency also recently entered a partnership with the Land Bank of the Philippines that enabled digital payments and simplified the payment process.
Anti-smuggling efforts have also helped and the BoC noted that several operations last month had mitigated potential revenue losses.
Rubio acknowledged the contributions of BoC personnel and reaffirmed the agency's commitment to enhancing its revenue generation capabilities.
"The revenue collected by our agency serves as a lifeline for our government coffers, funding crucial national projects such as infrastructure development, education, healthcare, and disaster preparedness," he said.
"Every peso collected is a testament to our commitment to serving the Filipino people and building a brighter future for our nation."
