THE National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) unveiled the historical marker for Carlos "Botong" Francisco on April 3. The marker read in Filipino the following:

"National artist. Painter and muralist. One of the promoters of modernism and muralism in the Philippines. Born in Angono, Rizal, Nov. 4, 1912. Studied at the University of the Philippines, 1930-1935. Became a draftsman of the Philippine Herald and Manila Tribune; collaborated with Victorio Edades with Galo Ocampo in painting the mural "Rising Philippines," 1934. Taught at the University of Santo Tomas, 1938. Winner of the gold prize for the works "Angelus" and "Kaingin." Accompanied Manuel Conde in the production of several films including the infamous "Genghis Khan." "Angono Ateliers" was built upon his return to Angono, 1953. In the same year, the work "Five Hundred Years of Philippine History" was featured in the first international fair in Manila, which was published in Pahayang Newsweek. Honored as the "Most outstanding alumni" of the University of the Philippines, 1954. Awarded the "Republic Cultural Heritage award," 1964. Some of his famous works are "Filipino struggles through history," "Pageant of commerce" and "First mass in the Philippines." His last moments were witnessed in this house on March 31, 1969. Awarded the order of the national artist of art for visual arts, 1973.

NHCP Chairman Emmanuel Franco Calairo presented the historical marker. Carlos Francisco 3rd will deliver his acceptance message after signing the certificate of transfer.
