Peralta named PNP OIC

PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has designated LtGen. Emmanuel Baloloy Peralta as officer in charge of the Philippine National Police (PNP), Malacañang confirmed on Sunday.

Peralta will take over from Gen. Benjamin Acorda Jr., who reached the mandatory retirement age of 56 on Dec. 3, 2023. His tour of duty was extended by the President until March 31.

Peralta's appointment papers were signed and issued by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin on March 27.

"In the exigency of the service, and to ensure the continuous and effective delivery of service, please be informed that Police Lt. Gen. Emmanuel Baloloy Peralta is designated as concurrent officer-in-charge, Office of the Chief, PNP, effective 31 March 2024, until a replacement is appointed or until otherwise directed by this office," the order, addressed to Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Benajmin Abalos Jr., read.

The PNP is an attached agency of the DILG.

Peralta, the police's deputy chief for administration, is the most senior official in the PNP Command Group.

He is followed by deputy chief for operations, LtGen. Michael John Dubria, and chief directorial staff, LtGen. Jon Arnaldo.

Like Acorda, Peralta is a member of the Philippine Military Academy "Sambisigs" Class of 1991.

Marcos will lead the PNP's change-of-command ceremony today, Monday, at the headquarters in Camp Crame.
