Marcial battles Thai foe in first home fight

FIGHTING at home for the first time as a professional, Filipino boxer Eumir Felix Marcial takes on Thai Thoedsak Sinam at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium in Malate, Manila tonight.

The eight-round battle, which has a catchweight of 170 pounds, is the main event of the fight card that starts at around 8 p.m.

The 5-foot-9 Marcial tipped the scales at 165 lbs at the official weigh-in on Friday, March 22, while the 5-foot-8 Sinam weighed 168 lbs.

Marcial, 28, stakes his unblemished 4-0 slate peppered with two knockouts against the veteran Sinam who sports a 23-13 win-loss slate with 12 knockouts.

Bound for the Paris Olympics after claiming a silver medal in the Hangzhou Asian Games last year, the southpaw Marcial last fought professionally against Argentine Ricardo Villalba in February last year where he won by knockout in the second round at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.

On the other hand, the right-handed Sinam, also 28, is on a two-fight win streak after knocking out compatriots Thirasak Yipaeng and Virad Pangyagonpivad in the fourth and third rounds, respectively, in November 2023 and December 2024.

Marcial had been training in the United States since January and made his return here in the country to continue his preparations at the Tagaytay Combat Sports Center.
