MANILA, Philippines: THE China Coast Guard (CCG) said that it took "regulatory actions" against Philippine vessels that 'illegally' entered territories claimed by Beijing and warned Manila that "those who play with fire will bring disgrace to themselves."

The CCG issued the statement shortly after two of its vessels fired water cannons on the Unaizah May 4, which was conducting another rotation and resupply mission (RoRe) to Filipino troops stationed on board the BRP Sierra Madre in Ayungin Shoal or Second Thomas Shoal or which the Chinese refer to as Ren'ai Jiao.

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said its ship sustained "severe damage" as a result of the incident.

The CCG accused the Philippines of attempting to "carry out irregular supplies and transportation of construction materials to BRP Sierra Madre, a warship which is illegally "sitting on the beach."

"(The Philippines) took the opportunity to infringe, provoke and cause trouble, and deliberately undermined the peace and stability of the South China Sea," the CCG said.

It further claimed that the Philippine supply ship ignored repeated warnings and "forced its way in."

"The China Coast Guard implements regulations, interceptions, and evictions in accordance with laws and regulations, and handles matters in a reasonable, legal, and professional manner," the CCG said.

It said that its ships will remain "on standby at all times to resolutely safeguard the country's territorial sovereignty and maritime rights and interests."

Meanwhile, the Chinese Embassy in Manila maintained that China has indisputable sovereignty over Nansha Qundao (Spratly Islands), including Ren'ai Jiao, and their adjacent waters.
