MANILA, Philippines: Maria Gigante of the Philippines was crowned Universal Woman 2024 during the pageant held Friday night in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
Venezuela's Lisandra Chirinos was 1st runner-up, while France's Elisa Mysyshyne, 2nd runner-up. Brianna Mai of Cambodia was 3rd runner-up, and Tavera Pena Chabelli of Dominican Republic, 4th runner-up.
A model, host and influencer from Bantayan Island, Cebu, 30-year-old Gigante also won the Social Media Award.
During the Top 5 Question and Answer segment, the finalists were asked, "What does a Universal Woman mean to you?"
Gigante answered: "To me, Universal Woman means the future. I learned from working with this organization that I want to live in a world that is filled with respect and collaboration. One that encourages us to step into our differences instead of ignoring them. And learn to harness them in order [to] affect positive social change."
"I want to be in this organization because I feel that I am not alone. I am one in an army of women who are ready and willing to make a difference. To support a world that is not only sustainable, but that stands for economic progress, and positive, inclusive, social impact. If you are here tonight, welcome to the new era of beauty," she added.
In a social post by Universal Woman on Saturday, it said that Gigante's powerful speeches and intellect captivated the audience.
"Beyond pageantry, she excels as a model, host, and entrepreneur. With a background in Philosophy, Maria adds depth to her achievements. Her unwavering determination and commitment to excellence inspire others, leaving a lasting impact on the world," the post read.
According to its official website, Universal Woman is a "platform that champions the unique brilliance and beauty of women making a positive impact in the world today."
The pageant allows delegates from 25 to 45 years old to enter without height, weight or marital status requirements.
As Universal Woman, Gigante will work on initiatives that protect women and children from physical and mental abuse through the non-profit organization the organization has chosen to work with.
A candidate sent by ALV Pageant Circle, which holds the local franchise, Gigante previously joined Miss World Philippines 2022 where she finished in the Top 11. She was also a candidate of Binibining Pilipinas and won the Binibining Cebu-Charity title in 2017.
