Two-time PBA Most Valuable Player James Yap will be shooting for another piece of PBA history as he's set to play in his 18th All-Star Game in his long and illustrious pro basketball career.
Yap, who currently plays for Blackwater, enters this year's PBA All-Star Weekend set in Bacolod City, tied with Asi Taulava with 17 All-Star appearances.
But the 42-year-old "Big Game James" has a chance to break the tie come Sunday when he plays for Team Mark Barroca in the mid-season spectacle versus Team Japeth Aguilar.
An even bigger bonus for the sweet-shooting Yap is the fact that he will be setting the record right before his home province where he first made a name for himself as a young high school player.
Yap, who hails from Escalante, Negros Occidental, will look to contribute for Team Mark, which will have San Miguel coach Jorge Gallent at the helm.
The other members of Team Mark include June Mar Fajardo, Jason Perkins, Robert Bolick, Jio Jalalon, Ian Sangalang, Calvin Abueva, Jayson Castro, CJ Perez, Gabe Norwood, Ricci Rivero, Juami Tiongson, Nards Pinto and Cliff Hodge.
Team Japeth, mentored by Tim Cone, will have Aguilar, Christian Standhardinger, Paul Lee, Calvin Oftana, Jamie Malonzo, Don Trollano, Marcio Lassiter, Arvin Tolentino, Chris Newsome, Maverick Ahanmisi, RR Pogoy, Stanley Pringle, Terrence Romeo, and Aris Dionisio.
Yap is also looking to add a third Three-Point Shootout crown as he serves as one of the challengers to Paul Lee, who is defending his crown on Saturday.
Yap, along with San Miguel gunner Marcio Lassiter, lead a strong cast of shooters that will also have Maverick Ahanmisi, Robbie Herndon, Arvin Tolentino, Ken Tuffin, Alec Stockton, Chris Newsome, Andrei Caracut, Marcio Lassiter, Javi Gomez de Liano and Calvin Oftana.
