FROM small beginnings to unrefuted trusted service by developers, Datem Inc. (Datem) completely emerged as one of the leading construction companies in the country as it celebrated 4 decades of total value engineering services and sustainable building.
In his message for Datem, former Finance secretary and Chairman Emeritus Edgardo Espiritu recognized Datem's contribution to the industry for laying opportunities and partnerships, contributing to economic, social and industrial growth.
Espiritu commended Datem's reputation as a trusted builder for its remarkable construction projects, saying: "These structures provide shelter and conducive working conditions and have captured the eyes and hearts of many due to the character evoked and purpose attained by each building."
Espiritu served as the secretary of the Department of Finance in 1998, pushed for anti-corruption measures and formulated policies that helped the country survive during the Asian financial crisis.
In 2020, Espiritu received the degree of Doctor of Laws honoris causa from the University of the Philippines, the highest academic recognition given by the university to individuals with remarkable contributions in their fields.
Espiritu added: "As you mark your 40th anniversary, may you continuously build legacies that will help future generations look back on their heritage. Continue to collaborate with all sectors to reflect and innovate on ways to transcend standards and translate and erect them into impactful structures that will not only steer growth, but will also deepen our sense of community for our nation's solidarity and prosperity."
Datem's 40-year history has been solidified by its landmark projects such as Menarco Tower in Bonifacio Global City, which received the prestigious Excellence in Design for Greater Efficiencies or EDGE Zero Carbon certification for its energy efficiency; One Uptown Residence, which won the Best Residential Architectural Design at the PropertyGuru Asia Property Awards in 2017; and The Mind Museum, which received the Themed Entertainment Association's Outstanding Achievement Award in 2014 and Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) v2.2 Gold Certification in 2016, highlighting further its excellence.
Moreover, Datem also served as a contractor for Arya Residences, which received several prestigious awards, including Best Residential Development and Best Condominium Development at the PropertyGuru Asia Property Awards, and the Makati Commerce Tower, which received the first LEED v4.0 Platinum certified green building in the country in 2023.
Infrastructure development in the current economy has gained more attention. To further fulfill its commitment to serving the nation, Datem collaborated with institutions to deliver competitive structures for the benefit of the public and positions to modernize and adhere to emerging technological advancements.
Currently, Datem has been working with Manila Water Co. Inc. to build the East Bay raw water intake structure near Laguna Lake in Pakil, Laguna. Once operational, this project would provide water supply to a huge population of Filipinos in the East concession area.
