Hong Kong's twin jewelry fairs return for a 'splendid legacy'

THE Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) shone anew with the success of its recently concluded twin jewelry fairs: HKTDC Hong Kong International Jewellery Show and HKTDC Hong Kong International Diamond, Gem and Pearl Show.

With the theme "Be part of the splendid legacy," the twin jewelry fairs reintroduced the "two fairs, two venues" format for the first time since the onset of Covid-19 pandemic. This provided an enriched and expansive experience for participants and attendees alike.

Marking its 10th year, the 5-day International Diamond, Gem and Pearl Show showcased top-notch raw materials that offered jewelers numerous options at the AsiaWorld-Expo from February 27 to March 2.

Following the display of loose and raw diamonds, gems and pearls, the HKTDC Hong Kong International Jewellery Show celebrated its 40th edition with first-rate masterpieces of jewelers from Hong Kong and all over the world from February 29 to March 4.

During the opening ceremony of the International Diamond, Gem and Pearl Show, Bernard Chan, Hong Kong SAR (special administrative region) acting secretary for Commerce and Economic (C&E) Development, announced that both fairs brought together 4,000 exhibitors, representing 44 countries and regions, showcasing a wide array of fine jewelry, jewelry tools and equipment.

"Our overall recovery of our C&E industry is 70 to 80 percent of pre-pandemic level," Chan stated, highlighting the country's competitiveness in the global stage and encouraging everyone, especially overseas investors and market players, to stay connected, explore and seize business opportunities in Hong Kong.

Chan added that the twin fairs served as an ideal networking platform for exhibitors to present new products and for buyers to seek solutions.

A dazzling milestone on the global arena

HKTDC Deputy Executive Director Sophia Chong noted that over 60 percent of this year's exhibitors originated from overseas, highlighting the remarkable international presence of both fairs.

This achievement also reflected in the diversity of the twin fair visitors. Attendees from Mainland China, India, Japan, the Philippines, Thailand and the United States ranked highest among foreign guests.

Ultimately, HKTDC reported that the twin fairs successfully drew 81,000 buyers from 137 countries and regions.

In terms of trends, HKTDC's survey also revealed that karat white gold, karat yellow gold and karat rose gold were three of the most popular precious metal products at the 2024 twin jewelry shows. Meanwhile, diamond was said to be the most popular gemstone, followed by ruby and pearl.

Makers of timeless gems

Among the leading names at the International Jewellery Show was Moiseikin, a Hong Kong-based jewelry brand.

Established by the seasoned jeweler Viktor Moiseikin, Moiseikin's pieces were crafted to inspire and evoke emotions. At the fair, the brand unveiled its latest creations with a spotlight on the Fortune Bird, an interior ornamental piece that symbolized prosperity and good fortune.

Moiseikin also set itself apart in the highly competitive jewelry landscape with the introduction of its Ball of Colour collection, featuring intricately crafted dancing jewels. Set within a white gold frame, the diamonds and pink sapphires of Moiseikin's kunzite ring whirled gracefully as if they were ballerinas.

Osi Vitoria, another prestigious jewelry brand, garnered attention for its exceptional creations that drew inspiration from the wonders of nature.

One of the standout pieces Osi Vitoria showcased at the jewelry show was the Floral Ensemble, a firework-inspired necklace, featuring a 62.67-carat natural emerald centerpiece, surrounded by 44 carats of emeralds, 124 carats of colored gemstone spinels and sapphires, and 10.7 carats of diamonds. The jewels were meticulously arranged on an 18-karat gold and titanium frame, which brought the exquisite firework necklace to life.

Beyond exhibiting stylish and opulent pieces, the twin jewelry fairs showcased the skills of jewelry artisans and facilitated the expansion of networks and business opportunities, which ultimately made a substantial contribution to the growth of Hong Kong's economy.

The success of this year's event reaffirmed HKTDC's long-standing legacy in hosting trade fairs as evident in the fulfillment experienced by numerous jewelers, enthusiasts and collectors at the 2024 twin jewelry fairs.
