NLEX buys more electric vehicles

NLEX Corp. is adding more electric vehicles (EVs) to its fleet under a commitment to boost sustainability.

The tollway company now has six EVs and eight more are expected to be delivered this month.

"Electric vehicles create a lower carbon footprint over the course of their lifetime compared to traditional internal combustion engine vehicles," NLEX President and General Manager J. Luigi Bautista said.

"The transition to electric vehicles for company vehicles, which we started last year, is an impactful way to integrate sustainability into our day-to-day operations," he added.

An EV charging station is being built at the firm's Sta. Rita office in Bulacan. It is targeted to be completed by next month and another station will be built in Balintawak by the third quarter of this year.

The EV charging stations will use solar energy and will be capable of charging an e-vehicle battery from zero percent to 85 percent in only 40 minutes.

"This year, we will also broaden the use of renewable and solar energy in our premises, and we will execute even the simplest greening initiatives we possibly can, to contribute to a cleaner and sustainable future," Bautista said.

NLEX has also shifted to solar power roofing and solar perimeter lighting systems at its office parking areas.
