From UST pals to pro rivals, Rondina proud of Eya Laure's growth

MANILA, Philippines: From facing other opponents together and now standing on different sides of the court, Sisi Rondina and Eya Laure both have a roaring history.

Laure and Rondina were teammates during their collegiate years at the University of Santo Tomas in UAAP Season 81.

Rondina saw an evident growth in Laure's athleticism in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL).

"I am really happy for Eya, personally. I witnessed her growth as a professional player in the pros. I know how coach Kung Fu (Reyes) helps her to unleash her potential. I am proud of her," Rondina told the press.

In their sisterly showdown, it was Rondina who prevailed after leading the Choco Mucho Flying Titans with 23 points to hand the Chery Tiggo Crossovers their first loss, 25-9, 25-23, 20-25, 25-17, in the PVL 2024 All-Filipino Conference at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City on Sunday, March 3.

While Laure continued to display her strong crosscourt kill prowess, tallying 13 points behind Ara Galang's 14-point outing.

With Chery Tiggo owning the third set in their match, Rondina shared how powerful Laure's hit when she starts to heat up in a game.

"Earlier, I was so happy because I dug one of her spikes. It is so strong," Rondina lauded Laure.

Despite the showdown, staredowns, and their growl of celebration of each point against each other, Rondina wished nothing but the best to her former UST sidekick.

"I know she has a lot to learn. I am praying for her success, and I hope for her success in the field of volleyball.
