MANILA, Philippines: Filipina tennis ace Alex Eala starts off her International Tennis Federation (ITF) W50 tournament in Trnava, Slovakia with a win in the women's doubles.
At Tuesday's Round of 16 (Wednesday in Manila), Eala and Turkish partner Zeynep Sönmez defeated the 4th seeded pair of Taiwan's Liang En-shuo and China's Tang Qianhui in two sets, 6-2, 6-4.
Eala and Sönmez will have to wait for their possible quarterfinal opponents, as of this writing. Their opponents will either be the pair of Ilona Ghioroaie of Romania and Aneta Kučmová of the Czech Republic or Francisca Jorge of Portugal and Anita Husarić-Wagner of Bosnia & Herzegovina.
The 18-year-old Filipina will also face off against Hungary's Anna Bondár in the women's singles on Wednesday night (Manila time), which would be her first match since moving at the Women's Tennis Association rankings.
