MANILA, Philippines: Filipino music icon Sarah Geronimo will make history in March as she becomes the first Filipina to receive recognition from the annual Billboard Women in Music Awards.
According to its website, the Billboard Women in Music "recognizes music's rising artists, creators, producers and executives for their contributions to the industry and community."
The event started in 2007 and has been celebrated every Women's Month to recognize women in the industry. Its main award, Woman of the Year, has been awarded to Beyonce, Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Madonna, and to Olivia Rodrigo, among others.

Also included in the category are Luísa Sonza from Brazil and Annalisa from Italy.
The other awardees are Karol G (Woman of the Year award), Charlie XCX (Powerhouse), Kylie Minogue (Icon), Ice Spice (Hitmaker) and NewJeans (Group of the Year), to name a few.
The Billboard Women in Music will take place on March 6 at Youtube Theater in Los Angeles, California.
