MANILA, Philippines: The NU Lady Bulldogs picked up their first win in the UAAP Season 86 women's tournament after outlasting the gutsy Ateneo Blue Eagles in five sets, 25-17, 24-26, 26-28, 25-19, 15-7, at the Mall of Asia Arena on Saturday, February 24.

Bella Belen, the Rookie of the Year and Most Valuable Player two seasons ago, made sure NU would keep the upset-seeking Ateneo at bay with 18 points, 24 excellent digs, and 10 receptions.

Vange Alinsug provided ample support with 19 markers including the back row attack that put the Lady Bulldogs ahead, 12-4.

Alyssa Solomon added 11 while Chammy Maaya added 14 points including the match-clinching block.

NU improved to 1-1, recovering from its season-opening loss to UST last week.

Sobe Buena notched 15 points to pace the Blue Eagles who dropped to 0-2.
