RENEWABLE power company Alternergy Holdings Corp. on Friday said that its wind subsidiary, Alternergy Tanay Wind Corp. (ATWC), had signed a memorandum of agreement with a local government unit to collaborate on community programs.
The partnership with the municipality of Tanay in Rizal aims to ensure that the construction and eventual operation and maintenance of ATWC's Tanay wind farm project "aligns with the best interests" of the local government and its constituents, Alternergy said in a disclosure.
Alternergy and the Tanay local government plan to pursue programs and projects that will enhance livelihood and job opportunities, local tourism, education, environmental protection, and disaster risk and reduction.
"[W]e aim to be a responsible guest and long-term partner to help achieve the development and environmental goals of the Tanay municipality," ATWC President Knud Hedeager said.
Among the programs and projects planned are environmental initiatives that support the preservation of water sources and natural caves, and priority employment for local residents during construction of the wind farm.
Both parties will also work together to establish a Tanay Tourism Information Center, which will provide assistance to improve the town's disaster risk reduction management capacity and also spearhead tree-planting activities and other environmental programs.
"We see this project becoming a catalyst of growth for our community and offer opportunities for our people," Tanay Mayor Rafael Tanjuatco said.
Construction of the wind farm is expected to start by April this year. Completion is targeted for the fourth quarter of 2025.
"Overall, Alternergy will strive to bring sustainable development to Tanay as we rely on them to ensure the success of the Tanay wind farm project," Hedeager said.
Alternergy shares on Friday slipped by 1.22 percent to close at 81 centavos each.
