MANILA, Philippines: Ku Hye-sun, who became a household name in the Philippines because of the hit 2009 Korean series "Boys Over Flowers," delighted her fans when she announced that she is finishing her formal studies. She is 39 years old.

"Hello everyone. It's been a while. Finally, after a long journey, I am going to graduate on 23rd. I'm writing this with a happy heart that I was able to graduate with high honors (Summa Cum Laude). The grace of Sungkyun Gwan University alumni and professors who helped me achieve a small achievement one by one among the lost time... I will not forget. Thank you," she wrote on her Instagram post, via @kookoo900, which accompanied her graduation photo.

The achievement came after a challenging time in Ku's life. In 2019, her much-publicized separation from her ex-husband, actor Ahn Jae-hyun, started. Their divorce was finalized in 2020.

During this time, she took a hiatus, formally announcing in September 2019 that she will halt showbiz activities and return to her studies.

According to reports, Ku was part of the Department of Broadcasting and Entertainment at Seoul National University of the Arts in 2003 but had to stop her studies to pursue an acting career.

Then, in 2011, she was accepted at Sungkyun Gwan University's Department of Imaging but once again put her studies on hold until her final return in the same university in 2020.
