House probe on Metro Cebu 'traffic crisis' sought

HOUSE Deputy Speaker and Cebu 5th District Rep. Vincent Franco Frasco filed a resolution seeking a House investigation, in aid of legislation, to resolve the "traffic crisis" in Metropolitan Cebu.

Frasco filed House Resolution 1592 on Wednesday, February 14.

The resolution stated that 'Metropolitan Cebu, along with its growing population, has been suffering from severe traffic congestion and other transportation-related problems.'

It stated that "the perennial issue of traffic congestion in Metropolitan Cebu greatly affects the general public, particularly the welfare and convenience of the commuters, their time spent travelling, as well as their health and safety."

The "traffic crisis also hampers the mobility of goods and services causing disruptions in various economic activities and other businesses," the resolution stated.

It said "there is a need to study the current traffic situation in Metropolitan Cebu."

Frasco wants lawmakers to recommend "measures to resolve the traffic crisis."

Cebu City and several other cities as well as several towns comprise Metropolitan Cebu.

Metropolitan Cebu is the second fastest-growing metro in the country, next to Metro Manila, the resolution stated.

"Metropolitan Cebu plays an increasingly significant role in the industrial, commercial and financial development of the Visayas and Mindanao regions," the resolution stated.
