MANILA, Philippines: On stare-downs, intimidating demeanor, and being a beast inside the court, Aby Maraño encouraged women to be unapologetic and to go after their dreams.

In an interview with the Manila Times, Maraño said often society will try to test you no matter how hard you try to be at your very best that is why it is fundamental to "fight for yourself."

"The more that people will say something about you, the more that you have to fight for yourself, since no one will do that for you," Maraño told Manila Times.

"You have to toughen up. Strive to do the right thing and do your best as long as you are not hurting other people," she added.

The five-foot-10 middle blocker cleared that her antics inside the court is her way of expressing her love for the game.

"I am unapologetic."

"The way I walk, talk, and celebrate each point inside the four corners of the arena is how I express my passion and boost my teammates' morale. Often some people misinterpret my actions, but that is who I am."

After the disbandment of the F2 Logistics, Maraño now plays with the Chery Tiggo Crossovers alongside her long-time teammate Ara Galang.

Despite being a new team member, Maraño was tapped to be the team captain of Chery Tiggo.

Maraño showed her leadership skills during the Crossovers' PNVF Champions League where they finished third after taking down the College of Saint Benilde.

Aside from helping the team for a bronze finish, Maraño also bagged the best middle blocker award in the pre-season league.

Maraño's captainship will be put to test in this year's PVL conference that will commence on February 20.
