Bataan students sent home due to bomb threat

ABUCAY, Bataan: Public school students in the elementary and secondary levels in 11 towns and one city in Bataan were sent home on Monday due to a bomb threat received by the provincial office of the Department of Education (DepEd).

Starting at 11 in the morning, school children from the Samal South Elementary School in Barangay Sta. Lucia and the Samal South Elementary School in Barangay San Juan here quietly vacated the school premises.

The students in the afternoon schedule were advised not to go to school and will hold asynchronous classes at home, Samal district school supervisor Elma Dizon said.

Dizon said the police have already scoured the school premises with the help of bomb-sniffing dogs and found nothing unusual.

It was also learned that the other public schools and some private schools in Bataan also cancelled their afternoon classes.

DepEd provincial head schools division superintendent Carolina Violeta said their information technology officer received through mail a threat that a bomb will explode at 3:35 p.m. on Monday, February 12, 2024.

Abucay police chief Maj. Jonathan Mostoles said that he received the report on the bomb threat on Monday morning and immediately dispatched a police team to coordinate with the DepEd.

Violeta said she will order the resumption of regular classes only after the Philippine National Police give her the go signal.
