Globe: Antenna upgrade to address coverage gaps

STATE-OF-THE-ART antennas that will significantly expand cell site reach have been deployed by Globe Telecom Inc., a development the telco said would help address coverage gaps and allow for better services to subscribers.

"Created in collaboration with antenna specialists Comarcom Ltd. and Telkha Network Inc. ... the Spotlight Vega Antenna was recently deployed in the areas of Tagaytay City, Abra de Ilog, Occidental Mindoro, and San Fernando, La Union, and will help upgrade 2G and 4G connectivity across the said regions," Globe said in a statement.

The technology upgrade will potentially benefit nearly 250,000 residents, it added.

"This innovative technology from our partners will help us fill coverage gaps in our network and, thus, help us give better service to subscribers," Globe technology and innovation head Gerhard Tan said.

The Spotlight Vega Antenna is said to provide an average 40-percent better coverage range and a 30-percent improvement in signal quality over traditional panel antennas as well as seamless integration, cost-efficiency, and maintenance-free operation.

Globe said users could expect download speeds of up to four times faster and twice as rapid upload speeds and significantly lower dropped calls and "black spots" in network coverage.

"Globe is creating opportunities to innovate and implement such creative solutions that are instrumental in addressing localized customer pain points," Tan said.

"With that, not only do we attain customer satisfaction but also improve our services and, likewise, integrate sustainability into how we operate as a company," he added.
