DAVAO CITY: The trough of the low pressure area (LPA) has brought heavy rains in Davao Region and displaced more than 1,411 residents belonging to 394 families, the regional Office of Civil Defense (OCD) reported on Wednesday afternoon, January 31.

The OCD in its report said that in Davao de Oro, a total of 288 families have been affected by the flooding due to continuous rainfall. In Davao Oriental, the weather disturbance displaces 106 families and are currently staying at the province's respective evacuation centers.

As of 1 p.m. on Wednesday, 15 barangay (villages) of these provinces were affected by flooding. Landslide incidents were also reported in 12 barangay in Davao de Oro and Oriental with no significant damage or casualty recorded yet.

The OCD also reported that three roads in Davao de Oro are unpassable to any types of vehicles due to landslides. Three roads in Davao Oriental are also not passable because of landslides and flooding.

The Philippine Coast Guard Southeastern Mindanao also reported that two persons have been reported missing in a landslide in Sitio Panlaisan, Barangay Pichon, Caraga, Davao Oriental, on Tuesday morning, January 30.

The OCD, meanwhile, recorded 44 local government units in the region have declared suspension of classes and work, including Davao City, due to heavy rains brought about by the LPA.

The Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration earlier issued weather advisory No. 4, indicating that the trough of the LPA may bring significant amount of rains within the next three days in various areas, including Davao Region.
