Fish deliveries post drop in 2023

REGIONAL ports in the country recorded lower fish deliveries last year in comparison to fish unloaded in 2022, the Philippine Fisheries Development Authority (PFDA) said.

In its quarterly review, the PFDA said that fish deliveries in 2023 reached 507,654.81 metric tons (MT), 5.29 percent lower than 536,035.42 MT recorded in 2022.

The average daily unloading, meanwhile, was equivalent to 1,569.12 MT of fish during the period.

The highest fish deliveries were recorded in the fourth quarter which totaled 144,359.40 MT, representing a 16.59 percent increase from 123,813.37 MT posted in the previous quarter.

Last year, the highest fish unloading was recorded in November at 49,718.434 MT. The volume was higher by 54.9 percent from 32,091.03 MT of fish delivered in the same month of 2022.

Regional ports, meanwhile, recorded a decline in the volume of fishery and non-fishery products processed in the last quarter with 305.87 MT in comparison to the third quarter's volume of 371.83 MT.

"Moreover, the ports joyously ended the year by opening their doors to 23,986 vessel arrivals and attended to 9,585 clients and stakeholders throughout the quarter," said PFDA.

It added that a total of 9,585 clients were served during the quarter.

The data was gathered from nine regional fish ports with 136 municipal fish ports across the country.
