Sayonara, Strada, Hello, all-new Triton

MITSUBISHI Motor Philippines Corp. (MMPC) on Friday officially launched the all-new Triton pickup, bidding farewell to the Strada nameplate via an offering pick-up targeted at customers seeking a capable workhorse or a stylish truck.

The newest addition to the local Mitsubishi lineup, which sports a boxy and geometrical shape markedly different from the Strada's, starts at P1,134,000 and tops out at P1,909,000 for the top-of-the-line Athlete 4WD AT variant.

Under the hood is a 2.4-liter two-stage turbocharged diesel MIVEC engine that delivers 204 hp and 470 Nm of torque and is mated to Mitsubishi's proprietary Super-Select 4WD II 4WD system.

Seven drive modes to fit different terrains are available along with Active Yaw Control — derived from Mitsubishi's rally heritage — that manages braking and power distribution.

A new chassis and suspension design is said to have also contributed to increased traction, better interior cargo space and an expanded cargo bed, which is also lower to facilitate loading.

The Triton also comes with driver assistance systems such as a multi-around view monitor, blind spot warning with lane change assist, forward collision mitigation, automatic high beam and rear cross traffic alert.

Further promising peace of mind in every drive, MMPC said that the first model it unveiled this year has secured five-star Asean New Car Assessment Program safety rating.
