China welcomes Marcos' affirmation of 'One China' policy, says reunification with Taiwan 'unstoppable'

MANILA, Philippine: Beijing said the reunification of China and Taiwan is "unstoppable" as it welcomed the Philippines' reaffirmation of its One China policy and clarification that it did not endorse Taipei's independence.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., in a recorded television interview Tuesday, reiterated that the Philippines is committed to the One China policy and that "has not changed and will not change."

The President also clarified that he did endorse Taiwan independence when he congratulated on X (formerly Twitter) the new Taiwan leader, Dr. Lai Ching-te.

Wang Wenbin, China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) spokesman said, "We appreciate the Philippines reaffirming its commitment to the one-China policy and emphasizing that Taiwan is a province of China and the Philippines does not endorse Taiwan independence."

Wang, in a briefing, said Taiwan is "an inalienable part" of China's territory. The Chinese Embassy in the Philippines shared the transcript of Wang's interview past midnight.

"Realizing the complete reunification in China is where global opinion trends and the arc of history bends. Any attempt to seek Taiwan independence is doomed to failure," Wang said.

The embassy echoed Wang's statement. "We appreciate President Marcos reiterating the Philippines' adherence to the one-China policy, emphasizing Taiwan is a province of China and the Philippines not endorsing Taiwan independence."

"It is well known there is but one China in the world Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory, and the government of the People's Republic of China is the sole complete reunification of China where global opinion trends and where the arc of history bends," it said.

"China will realize reunification and this is unstoppable," the embassy said.
