Shear line brings rain to SLuzon – Pagasa

MANILA, Philippines: The shear line where the hot and cold air converge has resurfaced and is bringing rain over the eastern section of Southern Luzon, including Bicol Region, the state weather bureau said on Thursday. Weather specialist Benison Estareja of the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said that they have not monitored any tropical cyclone or low pressure area (LPA) inside or outside the country's area of responsibility at least until over the weekend.

"We could expect another generally fair weather in most parts of the country except for scattered or isolated downpour and thunderstorms in the afternoon or at night," the Pagasa forecaster said.

Aside from the Bicol region, the state-run weather agency said in its 5 a.m. advisory that the shear line is also affecting Oriental Mindoro, Romblon, Marinduque, Aklan, Capiz and Northern Samar.

On one hand, the northeast monsoon or "amihan" is affecting the rest of Luzon, including Metro Manila where partly cloudy to overcast skies with isolated light rains may prevail over the next 24 hours.

The rest of the country will likely have isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the localized thunderstorms, Pagasa said.
