NBA veteran Dwight Howard has joked about playing for Gilas Pilipinas, after the initial roster for the United States (USA) men's basketball team for the upcoming Olympics was revealed.
The 41-man roster was named on Wednesday and included big NBA stars such as Howard's former teammate LeBron James, Stephen Curry, Kawhi Leonard, Tyrese Haliburton, and Chris Paul.
"Guess I'm playing for the Philippines," wrote Howard on his X (formerly Twitter) handle on Thursday.
He was part of the USA "Redeem Team" that won the gold in the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China. This team also included James, Paul, Carmelo Anthony, Chris Bosh, Dwyane Wade, and the late Kobe Bryant, who was another former teammate of Howard.
Howard's Strong Group Athletics team, which also consists of former Gilas Pilipinas players Andray Blatche and Jordan Heading, is unbeaten in five games so far in the Dubai International Basketball Championship in the United Arab Emirates.
