Reverting academic calendar to pre-pandemic sked studied

The Department of Education (DepEd) is considering reverting to the pre-pandemic academic calendar, following demands from parents and teachers' organizations. The proposed plan to return to the original June-March academic schedule is still being finalized, with adjustments being made to the drafted provisions. Organizations such as the Teachers' Dignity Coalition (TDC) and the Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT) have advocated for the previous academic schedule, citing the extreme heat students endured in March and April of the previous year. The potential adjustment is targeted for implementation in the school year 2025-2026, rather than the upcoming academic year 2024-2025. DepEd-Davao Spokesperson Jenielito Dodong Atillo confirmed that consultations with schools, teachers, parents, and student leaders have taken place. However, the proposed move will undergo thorough examinations, including the results of consultations with teachers' associations, employees unions, and private schools. The transition to remote learning was initially implemented due to the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, with classes in public schools opening in October of that year and later moving to August when full onsite classes resumed in 2023. Currently, over 22 million students have enrolled for the 2023–2024 academic year, with 19 million from public schools and 3 million from private institutions. The decision regarding the academic calendar is still pending, and no definite timeline has been set. Read The Rest at :
