Shear line damage assessment of DA-Davao 80% complete

The Department of Agriculture-Davao Region (DA-Davao) has completed 80% of its assessment of damage to the agriculture sector caused by the shear line. However, the final figure is pending validation, which may take several days or weeks. Initial estimates indicate a value loss of P145,435,917 in agriculture alone, with unreported damages in High-Value Crops from various municipalities, particularly in Davao del Norte and Davao Oriental provinces. The extreme weather disturbance has affected 6,352 farmers and 7,958.38 hectares of land, with a total of 134,879 families or 606,483 individuals affected in 300 barangays. Additionally, 3,495 families or 12,725 individuals have been displaced and sheltered in evacuation centers. The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and local government units have provided P49,576,273.10 in assistance to affected communities. This news comes in the wake of related stories, including floods and landslides affecting 2,400 families in Davao City and over 600,000 individuals affected by the shear line in Davao.
