Caraga declares State of Calamity anew

The municipality of Caraga in Davao Oriental has declared a state of calamity for the second time in a month, joining five other areas in the Davao Region. This decision comes in the wake of the impact of the shear line and localized thunderstorms. The Local Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (LDRRMC) recommended the declaration through Resolution No. 9, Series of 2024, in accordance with Section 16 of Republic Act 10121. This allows for the use of the 2024 Local Disaster Risk Reduction Management Quick Response Fund to provide immediate assistance. Approximately 7,303 families from 13 barangays have been affected, leading to the necessity of the declaration. Caraga Vice Mayor Melody Anne Benitez emphasized the significance of this resolution, as it justifies disbursements for relief operations, rehabilitation, and enables the municipality to seek financial aid from external sources. As of the latest update from the Office of the Civil Defense-Davao Region, five municipalities in Davao del Norte remain under a state of calamity. This situation adds to the challenges faced by the region, as some roads and bridges in Davao Oriental are still impassable, and over 600,000 individuals have been affected by the recent weather disturbances. The damage assessment by the Department of Agriculture in Davao is also ongoing. Read The Rest at :
