Xiaomi ventures into the automotive industry

TECHNOLOGY giant Xioami recently hosted the Xiaomi EV Technology Launch, introducing five groundbreaking core technologies for its electric vehicles (EVs). The event showcased electric motors, batteries, Xiaomi Die-Casting, Xiaomi Pilot Autonomous Driving, and Smart Cabin technologies, laying the foundation for Xiaomi's foray into the automotive industry.

Xiaomi's flagship electric vehicle (EV), the Xiaomi SU7, made its global debut during the launch, revealing details about its design, performance, range, and safety features. Positioned as a "full-size high-performance eco-technology sedan," the Xiaomi SU7 aims to redefine performance, ecosystem integration and the mobile smart space experience.

Lei Jun, founder, chairman, and chief executive officer of Xiaomi Group, emphasized the company's commitment to reshaping the automotive landscape. He positioned Xiaomi's entry into the automotive industry as a transformative step, marking a significant departure from its roots in the smartphone industry. Jun expressed Xiaomi's ambition to rank among the top five global automakers within 15 to 20 years through a tenfold investment and dedicated development of core technologies.

Xiaomi's redefinition of automotive technology

Xiaomi EV adopts a bottom-up approach, beginning with the development of foundational core technologies. The company has invested over 10 billion yuan in research and development, involving more than 3,400 engineers and over a thousand technical experts globally. The event showcased breakthroughs in the five core technologies, highlighting Xiaomi's 13 years of technological expertise.

Showcasing its electric motor (e-motor) advancements, Xiaomi unveiled its HyperEngine V6/V6s and HyperEngine V8s e-motors, setting new industry standards. The HyperEngine V8s, with a global record-setting maximum speed of 27,200 rpm, employs innovative technologies for cooling and silicon steel lamination design.

Another highlight during the launch was the company's revolutionary battery integration. Xiaomi's CTB Integrated Battery Technology features Inverted Cell Technology, a multifunctional elastic interlayer and a minimalistic wiring system. With a battery integration efficiency of 77.8 percent, the highest globally, and a theoretical CLTC recharge range exceeding 1,200 kilometers, Xiaomi sets a new benchmark in battery technology.

An innovative die-casting technology was also introduced. Xiaomi Die-Casting T9100 cluster and Xiaomi Titans Metal, a proprietary die-casting alloy material, redefine large die-casting and materials research. The die-casting cluster significantly reduces production hours and car weight, showcasing Xiaomi's commitment to innovation in manufacturing.

Xiaomi leads in intelligent software technology with three key autonomous driving technologies: Adaptive BEV (battery electric vehicle) Technology, Road-Mapping Foundational Model, and Super-Res Occupancy Network Technology. These innovations ensure wider visibility, real-time road condition recognition and accurate obstacle recognition, marking Xiaomi's strides in autonomous driving capabilities.

The EV Smart Cabin adopts a "human-centric" interaction architecture, featuring advanced displays and the Snapdragon 8295 in-car chip. The seamless integration with Xiaomi's ecosystem and support for over 1,000 smart home devices positions the Smart Cabin as a central hub for a comprehensive smart mobile space experience.

Xiaomi SU7: A technological marvel

The Xiaomi SU7, positioned as a "full-size high-performance eco-technology sedan," redefines high-performance EVs with its cutting-edge technology. Achieving a zero-to-hundred acceleration in 2.78 seconds and a top speed of 265 kp/h, the Xiaomi SU7 Max joins the elite "sub-2-second supercar" category.

Xiaomi's Smart Chassis control algorithm empowers the Xiaomi SU7 with millisecond-level adaptive dynamic chassis control, providing a stable yet comfortable driving experience. The integration of applications, hardware and third-party CarIoT ecosystems makes Xiaomi SU7 a versatile performer, offering an unprecedented smart mobile space experience.

Completing the "Human x Car x Home" smart ecosystem

Jun asserted Xiaomi's strategic shift from "Smartphone x AIoT" to the "Human x Car x Home" smart ecosystem. Xiaomi's entry into the automotive industry completes this ecosystem, fostering seamless connectivity among individuals, devices, and intelligent services.

The Human x Car x Home ecosystem enables collaboration and evolution, integrating Xiaomi HyperOS with over 200 product categories. With a focus on inclusivity and human-centered design, Xiaomi positions itself at the forefront of the smart electric vehicle revolution, promising a future where Xiaomi EVs become a familiar sight on roads worldwide.
