Ruling National People's Power heading for absolute majority in Sri Lanka parliamentary poll

Sri Lanka's ruling National People's Power (NPP) party, led by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, secured a commanding lead in the parliamentary election. With over 4.4 million votes, the NPP is projected to surpass the 150-seat threshold for an absolute majority in the 225-member assembly. The main opposition parties, SJB and NDF, suffered significant losses.
