The United Nations' human rights chief, Volker Turk, has urged the government to end the "shocking violence" in Bangladesh, where protesters demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina clashed with government supporters. Turk called for the government to cease targeting peaceful protesters, release those arbitrarily detained, restore full Internet access, and create conditions for meaningful dialogue.
