Renowned London-born filmmaker Christopher Nolan claimed the coveted title of best director for his work on the film centered around J. Robert Oppenheimer, often referred to as the father of the atomic bomb. The movie itself triumphed in the best picture category, and Robert Downey Jr. earned recognition as best supporting actor for his portrayal of Lewis Strauss, the former head of the US Atomic Energy Commission.
