Vodafone Idea (Vi) has completed trials using Samsung's virtualised RAN (vRAN) technology, which is expected to bring substantial cost savings to the telco compared to legacy hardware infrastructure. vRAN is a technology that allows for the complete running of baseband functions as software on commonly available hardware, reducing server or processor capacity at sites.
