The Indian Cabinet has approved the establishment of two pithead thermal power plants through joint ventures between South Eastern Coalfields (SECL) and Mahanadi Coalfields (MCL) to provide cheaper power. The CCEA, chaired by Narendra Modi, approved proposals for a 1×660 MW plant at Amarkantak Thermal Power Station in Chachai, Madhya Pradesh, and a 2x800 MW plant in Sundergarh, Odisha.
