Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma predicts a decline in Muslim MLAs from the Congress by the 2026 assembly elections. Sarma also hints at Congress leader Rana Goswami possibly joining the BJP, stating he would welcome it. In response, Water Resources Minister Pijush Hazarika claims most Congress leaders and MLAs, except a few, are in contact with the BJP. Meanwhile, Assam Pradesh Congress Chief Bhupen Borah accuses Sarma of transferring his brother and sister-in-law, both government employees, to distant parts of the state, alleging fear and acrimony from Sarma.
