(UPDATE) THE seven-member swimming team will vie for gold medals at the 2024 Buccaneer Invitational Swimming Championships slated on October 26 to 27 at the St. Mary's International School swimming pool in Tokyo, Japan.The Behrouz Elite Swimming Team (BEST), led by Mojdeh brothers Mikhael Jasper Mikee and Behrouz Mohammad Madi, will compete in various events.Mikee will be seeing action in six events in the boys' 9-year class, including the 100-m freestyle, 50-m butterfly, and 100-m backstroke on the opening day of the two-day meet.He will also take part in the 50-m backstroke, 100-m butterfly and 100-m individual medley events.
On the other hand, Madi will compete in the same number of events in the boys' 13-year division — 400-m individual medley, 100-m butterfly, 100-m breaststroke, 200-m breaststroke, 200-m butterfly and 200-m individual medley."We're sending them abroad to gain valuable experience from their foreign counterparts. This is part of our program to deepen their experience and learning," said BEST team manager Joan Mojdeh.Other members of the team include Kristian Yugo Canaba, Athena Custodio, Juancho Jamon, Clara Maligat and Therese Annika Quinto.The team expressed gratitude to the Filipino community in Tokyo, particularly Bombo Radyo correspondent Myles Beltran and Arnel Punzalan, for their unwavering support."We're extremely thankful to the Filipino community in Japan, especially Myles and Arnel, for their support. It's a huge help for the entire team," Joan said.The BEST tankers are intensifying their training to ensure they're prepared for the competition against top-notch swimmers."Training continues for the kids. They're excited to bring honor to our country and delight the Filipino community in Tokyo who will watch and support at the venue," Joan added.
