MANILA, Philippines — Dismissed Bamban, Tarlac mayor Alice Guo reiterated that she was not China's spy after a Chinese tycoon jailed in Thailand claimed she was in a documentary shown during a committee hearing at the House of Representatives on Friday night.
Davao Oriental 2nd District Rep. Cheeno Miguel Almario of the Quad Committee showed an excerpt of the documentary produced and aired on Al Jazeera English where She Zhijiang revealed in his dossier that Guo Hua Ping, the alleged Chinese name of Guo, was a state agent.
In the documentary, She said that he used his handler's mobile phone to speak to Guo in the Philippines, adding that the former local chief executive wanted him to fund her campaign in 2022.
"I really didn't want to offend the government of the Philippines, so I didn't give her any money," She said in the documentary.
The documentary also said that Guo was the daughter of Lin Wen-yi and was born and grew up in Fujian.
She also advised Guo to "speak the truth" as "China cannot be trusted."
"Look at what happened to me. If you don't want to be eliminated, you should tell the world the truth," She said.
After the video was shown, Guo was incensed at the allegation that she was a state agent or a spy and denied that she knew She.
"Your Honor, it's unfair to me. I never knew him, I never asked for campaign funds entirely during the campaign period. I want to tell our countrymen that I love the Philippines," Guo told QuadComm lead Chairman and Surigao del Norte Rep. Robert Ace Barbers.
She also said that she would want to file charges against She for describing her as a Chinese state agent.
