CITY OF MALOLOS — Rising water elevations at Ipo and Bustos Dams due to continuous rains dumped by Typhoon Enteng have forced the release of water to its downstream river system on Monday.

The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO) of Bulacan reported that water elevation of Ipo Dam as of 8 a.m. on September 2 was at 101.30 meters while that of Bustos Dam was at 17.33 meters.

Manuel Lukban Jr., PDRRMO head, said that by 11 a.m., the water level at Ipo Dam rose to 101.88 meters, which surpassed its spilling level of 101 meters.

Lukban said Ipo Dam has released water at the rate of 177.18 cubic meters per second and its radial gate was raised by 30 centimeters.

On the other hand, Josephine Salazar, regional director of the National Irrigation Administration in Central Luzon, said that by 11 a.m. on Monday, Bustos Dam's water elevation rose to 17.52 meters, also surpassing its spilling level of 17.35 meters.

Bustos Dam's sluice gates 1 and 2 were both raised by three meters, releasing water at the rate of 156 cubic meters per second.

Salazar noted that no water for irrigation was released by the said dam.
