THE Philippine Red Cross (PRC) and Radio Mindanao Networks (RMN), with support from the local government of Malabon, held a blood donation drive, dubbed the "Dugtong-Buhay Bloodletting project," at Malabon Sports Complex on Aug. 10, 2024. Malabueño blood donors showed up for the event, which resulted in 125 bags of blood collected.
PRC Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Richard Gordon emphasized the significance of practicing and regularly donating blood, saying: "Helping other people and giving blood needs practice. If you do not practice it, you will forget. Your age is determined by your idealism. When you have a sense of service for other people, you won't age. We salute you."
Earlier this year, both organizations conducted similar activities in Mandaluyong and Laguna. RMN Network's Corporate Communications head Enrique Canoy noted that the target for this year was to surpass the more than 600 blood bags collected by PRC and RMN in 2023.
Another highlight of the event was the recognition of 26 blood donors, who reached a milestone of donating one gallon of blood. In a video message, PRC Secretary General Gwen Pang expressed her gratitude and acknowledged blood donors, partners and awardees.
The initiative was attended by PRC's National Blood Services Director Christie Monina Nalupta, PRC Malabon Chapter Chief Administrator Julie Legaspi, RMN Foundation's Corporate Social Responsibility Officer Patrick Aurelio, PRC Malabon Chapter's Board of Directors, and Malabon City Mayor Jeannie Sandoval, who lauded the services of PRC and assured the organization of the Malabon City government's full support.
