Trillanes files cases against Davao Rep. Duterte for drug smuggling

MANILA, Philippines — Former senator Antonio Trillanes IV on Wednesday filed a case against Davao City 1st District Rep. Paolo Duterte before the Department of Justice (DoJ).

In a post on his X (formerly Twitter) platform, Trillanes said that apart from Duterte, Manases "Mans" Carpio, along with Charlie Tan, Nicanor Faeldon, and "Tita Nanie" Cabatu-Coronacion were named in the suit.

"I filed a drug smuggling case before the DoJ against Pulong Duterte, Mans Carpio, Charlie Tan, Nic Faeldon, Allen Capuyan and other members of the Davao group in connection with the P6.4 billion shabu shipment that was caught in 2017," Trillanes wrote in Filipino.

Carpio is the husband of Vice President Sara Duterte while Faeldon was a former Bureau of Corrections director-general during the previous administration. Capuyan was a former chairman of the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples.

The case filed against Duterte and several others was for violation of Section 4 of Republic Act (RA) 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, which is the importation of dangerous drugs and/or controlled precursors and essential chemicals and for graft and corruption under RA 3019 or the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act.
