MANILA, Philippines — Siargao topped the list of the seven best places to visit in Southeast Asia, according to Lonely Planet's July article.
Siargao, which is in Surigao del Norte, is famous for its top-notch surfing, including the Cloud 9 break, which is recognized as one of the greatest waves in the world.
Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco thanked Lonely Planet for the recognition, as well as all visitors and locals who contributed to Siargao's status as an exceptional destination.
"This achievement motivates us to continue our efforts in promoting sustainable tourism and preserving the natural wonders of our beautiful archipelago," Frasco said in a statement on Monday.
Also in the Lonely Planet's list are Amed, Bali; Cao Bang, Vietnam; Khao Sok National Park, Thailand; Luang Prabang, Laos; Penang, Malaysia; and Gili Air, Indonesia.
