MANILA, Philippines — Vice President Sara Duterte will neither campaign for the administration candidates nor for her father, former president Rodrigo Duterte and his ticket, in the 2025 midterm elections.
Speaking to media during the turnover ceremonies at the Department of Education in Pasig City on Thursday, Duterte said in Filipino that both President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and her father invited her to join them during the campaign but she declined, adding that her party will not join the alliance being put up by the Chief Executive.
She said that she wanted to think about the direction she would take during this time but added that "anything can change" between now and the filing of certificates of candidacy (CoCs) in 2025 and that "nothing is final" until the last day of filing the CoCs.
However, the vice president said she would have a "heart-to-heart" talk with Senators Bong Go and Ronald dela Rosa after the President's State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Monday.
Duterte resigned from her post as Education chief amid her reported tiff with first lady Liza Araneta-Marcos who criticized her for allegedly doing nothing when the President was being criticized by her father and brothers during a gathering in Davao City early this year. She was replaced by former senator Juan Edgardo Angara.
The vice president, however, denied this.
